HOW DOES IT WORK?
I’m Emily, and I’m a portrait photographer medway…
Who am I? An IPS Photographer based in Medway.
My name is Emily and I’m a wedding and portrait photographer based in Rainham, Medway, Kent. I pride myself on offering an experience that is more than just a service. I want to create beautiful photographs and capture wonderful memories that you will treasure and hang on your wall for years to come. Talk to me about your vision for your session and we will try and create it together.
How it works: A friendly face-to-face experience with a portrait photographer medway
What I offer is a friendly experience, different to the typical cold studio atmosphere.
It starts with a talk about what you want from your session: if you have any expectations or a vision for the final product – or if there is a particular spot on your wall that is looking bare and needs a stunning feature piece.
The session comes as either:
an adventure to a beautiful outdoor location
a visit to my home, where I set up with all of my studio equipment
We will discuss exactly how your session works in more detail before it begins.
At the time of, or just before, your session we will also set a date for you to have an in-person viewing of your final gallery of approximately 20 fully edited and digitally enhanced images. At this point, you are able to decide which package or images you would like to order.
On the day of your in-person gallery viewing, you will be invited back to my home for a warm drink – and we will sit down together while you have the chance to view your photographs.
While many photographers may simply show a slideshow or digital gallery, I have begun to take a different approach. You will view your entire gallery, printed, in front of you. This means you can touch, hold and examine your images and fall in love with them in person.
Taking prints home on the day of your in-person viewing:
Because you are viewing your gallery printed, you can take your printed images home with you that same day if you wish
alongside other pieces of wall art, prints, digital image files and albums that you may wish to order from your collection.
Prices and Packages… Your investment in your images.
I require a £50 session fee to secure your slot; this covers your session only and does not include any digital images, prints or wall art.
As an added note to my prices and package options, I would like to answer a question that I’ve received a few times: Why don’t I just offer a CD of digitals with my sessions? There are many reasons I’ve chosen not to employ this method in my business, but I won’t go into an essay about them – instead, I’m going to ask: What are your grandchildren going to do with a disk full of images? It will sit in a dusty old box at the back of the closet, become scratched, old and unreadable – never to see the light of day again. That’s if they don’t throw it away. But prints? Albums? Wall art pieces? They can be handed down from generation to generation and enjoyed, embraced and cherished daily by the family and its descendants. Just imagine if all of your grandparent’s photographs were on a floppy disk…
Why invest in photography?
In this technological age, every Tom, Dick and Harry has a smartphone with a camera that can take a picture. Some people have even stopped investing in a professional photographer, because they find that they can make do with lower quality mobile photographs – and that’s okay if it works for you. We each have our own ideas.
What I create is beautiful, high-quality images and moments that you will treasure for a lifetime. In a child’s life, the details of their persons are so fleeting that you can often miss them; a newborn’s features can change so much in their first month of life that it’s easy to forget the scrunched up newness and tummy rolls. Those chubby cheeks on your 3-year-old will soon fade as he grows into his own little person – but you will always want to remember them, and this perfect time. And I offer a friendly, homely service that means you can stay comfortable and unstressed.
I believe that photography is one of the most important things that you can invest in. Many of us spend £4 for a drink each day in our favourite coffee shop and think nothing of it, are happy to spend hundreds on a designer bag or dress, yet the price of professional photography can still seem daunting – the price of preserving your memories and featuring them on your walls. And with the designer bags, the expensive coffees, the trips to the fairground? In 10 years time – what will you have to show for them?
Investing in photography for your family is something that will last forever. You will be able to hand down archival-quality prints and products to your children that will last for their lifetime – and their children’s lifetime beyond them. They will remember and know you – even when your time is over. You can pass down fine-art archival-grade albums to them and know they will be sharing the albums with friends and family for years to come. And to me, that is far more important than coffee or clothes.
Professional Portraiture is not for everyone. It is a luxury service that I provide to preserve these memories, and sometimes people get a shock when hiring a professional portrait photographer for the first time. While it may be true that the investment is more than it would be if you were going to hire a one-hour, shoot-and-burn photographer or a friend with a fancy camera – you are not simply paying for a disk of photos snapped by somebody. You are paying for pieces of art: and the artists time and talent, training, thousands of pounds worth of equipment, costs of running a business, archival quality products, customisation and consultation time – and that’s only the beginning of the list. I frequently spend 15 – 40 hours per client. Combining all of the variables I just mentioned accounts towards the equation that makes up a professional portrait session and the art provided from Emily Crutcher, Portrait Photographer Medway.
